    Destination: Nairobi

    Situated along the Nairobi River in beautiful Kenya, the capital of Nairobi is East Africa's most cosmopolitan city. It serves as an excellent starting point for African safari trips around Kenya. Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place to be. There are some fascinating attractions: its cafe culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum and most notably, just 20 minutes from the city centre, wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve. Make sure you pay a visit to the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for a once in a lifetime experience.

    Day Notes
    Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be transferred to your accommodation in Nairobi.  This thriving metropolis is world famous.  The cool climate made this site the ideal place for the colonial railway depot and later became the colonial capital in 1907.  Today Nairobi is one of the most important business and banking hubs in all of Africa, yet it has kept the "out of Africa" charm.  Depending on your time of arrival, a variety of additional activities can be organised.     Day 2

    Day Notes
    After a scrumptious breakfast, we start the day off with a Nairobi City tour.  Our first stop is the Kazuri Bead Factory, a social enterprise established in 1975 as a project to assist single mothers make a living.  Today more than 300 women work at the factory creating a variety of bead work and pottery.  After our tour of the Bead Factory we then head to the Giraffe Centre, where you can learn about the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and experience an up close and personal encounter.  After lunch we then head to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage for a special behind the scenes,foster parent visit where we get to meet the young orphaned elephants as they come in from the day.  After the elephants retire we return back to our accommodation for the evening.   • DAY 3 - 5

    Destination: Ol Pejeta Conservancy

    Resting at the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, in central Kenya's Laikipia County, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It is also home to some of the last remaining northern white rhino in the world. Originally a working cattle ranch in colonial Kenya and now a pioneering wildlife conservancy, Ol Pejeta works to protect wildlife and provide a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. The Conservancy is a popular safari destination and is home to the renowned ‘Big Five’ as well as a wide selection of other African animals including zebra, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, jackal, serval, hyena, vervet monkey, and many more. Visitors can look forward to an assortment of outdoor activities such as horse rides, game walks, and nocturnal game drives.

    Day Notes
    After breakfast you will be met by your safari guide and set out north, making our way across the fertile lands of Thika, the breadbasket of Kenya found on the slopes of the towering Mt. Kenya.  The drive takes us across the equator where we will stop for a picture before arriving at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.  We will enjoy a hot lunch on arrival before heading out for an afternoon game drive in the 360 sq Km reserve. Overnight on Full Board basis. (FB)

    Day 4

    Day Notes
    Today is your chance to become a ranger for the day and assist the Ol Pejeta conservation team.  You will be given a workbook of various activities and questions to solve throughout the day as we enjoy our game drive and a visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary.  At the end of the day we meet one of the Tourism Rangers at the Morani Information Center who will review your data collection and will administer the ranger oath along with presenting you a ranger hat and honorary certificate (activity for children).   • DAY 5 - 6

    Destination: Nakuru

    Nakuru is a fascinating city on the shores of western Kenya’s Lake Nakuru. The capital of Nakuru County located in the Great Rift Valley, about ten kilometres from the massive Menengai Crater. A hiking trail leads up to the rim of this ancient caldera, offering bird’s eye views over the lake and surrounds, and then plunges 400 metres down to the floor below, where visitors can walk among ancient forests. Lake Nakuru National Park, surrounding Nakuru, is home to exceptional birdlife, as well as over 50 varieties of mammals including lion, leopard, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, rhino, antelope and various primates. History and culture enthusiasts should make sure to visit the incredible Hyrax Hill prehistoric site.

    Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge • NAKURU

    Description
    Lake Nakuru Sopa lodge is located on a range of hills that form the western limits of Africa's great Rift valley, the Lodge offers spectacular views over the vastness of lake Nakuru and its surrounding National Park. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with Flamingos and other water birds being the major attraction of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the white and black rhino, buffaloes and others. The Lodge is 20km from the park main gate and 15 minutes drive from Naishi airstrip. Lodge accommodation consist of 60 rooms which include 2 inter-connecting rooms, 2 rooms accessible on wheel chair. Rooms are grouped into single, twin or triple rooms. All rooms have a clear view of the lake and you are able to view the sun rise from the balcony.     After breakfast we will enjoy a short game drive as we leave Ol Pejeta and make our way to the lake region of Kenya.  The winding road takes us back and forth across the equator multiple times.  We stop for lunch and a visit to the Thomson's Falls, where the Ewaso Ng'iro River drops over 70 meters.  After lunch we continue to Lake Nakuru National Park where we will enjoy a game drive on arrival. Overnight on Full Board basis. (FB)

  • DAY 6 - 7

    Destination: Naivasha

    Located in the beautiful Kenya Rift Valley basin, Naivasha is a compact market town northwest of Nairobi, best known as a stopping point for spellbinding Lake Naivasha. Aspiring wildlife photographers and nature lovers will marvel at Lake Naivasha and its abundance of wondrous wildlife. Here visitors can spot wallowing hippo pods, clouds of vibrant birdlife, zebra and various other game. The nearby Lake Oloiden and Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary are great spots for those passionate about wild wonders. Shopping in the bustling town ensures unique souvenirs for mementoes as well as restaurants offering delicious local dishes with every taste in mind. Accommodations ranging from lodges to bed and breakfasts provide great conveniences for travelers looking to explore the area.

    Accommodation: Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort

    Description
    Naivasha is a Masai name given to the area, denoting the characteristics of the lake. 21 cottages are built in a crescent shape, and each has four rooms, totaling 80 standard rooms and Two suites. Two of these rooms are suitable for the physically challenged. Six of the 21 cottages have interconnecting rooms on the ground floor. Rock gardens feature vibrantly coloured flowers, which give a beautiful contrast to the greenery of the well-manicured lawns. Monkeys play on the lawns and different species of birds chip in the trees. Pathways wind between the open lawns and frangipanis, with aloes and proteas growing in abundance. The acacia trees are plentiful in this area and provide welcome shade. The stone exterior walls of the cottages are carried into the rooms. Ground-floor rooms have two queen-size beds and a sunken living room at the front, which opens out on to the beautifully manicured lawns.

    In the morning we finish exploring Lake Nakuru and the wildlife and then continue down the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha, one of the few freshwater lakes found in the Rift Valley.  We will enjoy a boat excursion on the lake, followed by a guided walking safari on Crescent Island.   • DAY 7 - 9

    Destination: Masai Mara National Reserve

    One of Kenya’s undisputed natural highlights is the Masai Mara National Reserve, which sprawls across more than 1500 square kilometres of the country’s southwest. The park protects a phenomenal array of game, including elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, as well as crocodile and hippopotamus in the Mara River. The birdlife is no less impressive, with over 450 resident bird species. However, the true highlight here is the Great Migration, recognised as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World. To survive the dry months of July to September, some 1.7 million wildebeest, migrate from the parched plains of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Along with much smaller numbers of antelope, buffalo and zebra, they move to the more forgiving grasslands of the Masai Mara. In their wake come predators such as lion, hyena and cheetah, for whom these giant herds are an easy source of prey.

    MARA SERENA SAFARI LODGE • MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

    We continue south into Maasai Country where we find the world famous Masai Mara, the inspiration behind the film the Lion King.  Maasai Mara National Park is one of the most exciting parks in Kenya hosting the annual wildebeest migration with more than 1.5 million wildebeest and some half a million zebra make their way into the park from the Serengeti in search of greener pastures.  The Masai Mara is also know for a huge variety of other wildlife, but in particularly it is a great place to spot Lion and Cheetah.  The following day we will enjoy the  game drives exploring grassy plains and rolling hills with the famous Acacia trees and excellent wildlife. Overnight on Full Board basis. (FB)
